Theater Margherita

The Teatro Margherita dates back to the early twentieth century. The theater is part of the Polo dell’Arte Contemporanea together with the former Fish Market and Sala Murat. Originally in wood, it was built above the sea to circumvent a ban by the municipality which, after the construction of Petruzzelli, prohibited the construction of other theaters in the city. After being destroyed by fire just one year after its inauguration, it was then rebuilt in concrete in the current Art Nouveau style. After the Second World War it was a cinema for a long time. Worth a visit, even if only from the outside to admire the building.
